0:27
vehicle and once again thanks to gumout
0:29
for sponsoring that part of my video now
0:31
back to my regular content what is more
0:34
stressful than flying 150 000 miles in
0:37
one year for work having a bunch of
0:39
project cars waiting for you back at
0:41
home that’s what’s stressful it’s been a
0:43
while since I’ve talked about my
0:44
projects and it hasn’t been fair to you
0:46
guys so let’s go ahead and go through
0:48
every single one of my project cars in
0:51
detail and get you up to speed of
0:53
everything going on and there’s a lot so
0:56
I hope you enjoy this video as we go
0:58
through the tour
1:00
after supercharging this car I drove it
1:03
all the way back from Richmond Virginia
1:04
to Atlanta and I got on the gas a few
1:07
days later and got a check engine light
1:08
and was wondering what was happening but
1:10
what’s funny is that technically the
1:12
problem was my fault so this car overall
1:15
has treated me the best in probably my
1:18
entire career it’s fast it’s comfortable
1:21
has heating cool seats has Apple carplay
1:24
and that’s why I’m able to daily drive a
1:26
750 watt horsepower car it’s just
1:28
awesome but there are a few things I’ve
1:31
run into that are super super weird but
1:34
thankfully with the help of National
1:36
Speed I was able to figure it out so
1:38
here’s the 750 where horsepower setup on
1:41
Subzero we’ve got the VMP Odin right
1:43
here absolute Beast of a supercharger
1:45
you have this grill right here this
1:47
fancy cervini’s Grill which looks really
1:49
nice but the factory Grille actually has
1:52
the shutters in it that control airflow
1:54
well you got to remove that in order to
1:56
put this guy in so if you look right
1:58
here
1:59
air is going straight into here right
2:02
you can’t really see it that well but
2:03
there’s another nozzle right here that
2:05
feeds into that part of the grill so
2:07
what’s happening is air is going through
2:09
here funneling through here and then
2:12
causing turbulent air in this area
2:15
therefore confusing this MAF sensor and
2:19
everything else going on so in a weird
2:22
turn of events I was getting too much
2:24
airflow to this engine which is really
2:27
weird but it makes sense with all that
2:29
turbulent air happening that it’s not
2:31
used to it was starting to dump Fuel and
2:34
change the air fuel ratio therefore I
2:36
had no gas mileage either everything
2:38
just went down the drain when it came to
2:40
that also somebody was kind enough to uh
2:43
hit my door extremely hard and just you
2:46
know drive away because that’s typically
2:48
what you do seems like a nice guy we
2:51
also have a big chip in my front lip
2:53
from something but you know it builds
2:55
character so who cares right but overall
2:58
couldn’t be happier with the national
2:59
speed VMP package it’s been an amazing
3:02
daily driver and once we sorted that out
3:04
I haven’t seemed to have any other
3:06
issues with this I’m still data logging
3:08
for them to just make sure but no check
3:10
engine lights nothing weird so far just
3:12
because of putting a block off plate in
3:15
this little nozzle and that’s all it
3:17
took
3:18
[Music]
3:24
crap I can’t believe that already that
3:26
just shows how project cars just kind of
3:28
get carried away when you don’t have
3:30
time to do them currently the car still
3:32
has an open downpipe exhaust once the
3:35
exhaust is done the number one thing is
3:37
actually to get an alignment because
3:39
it’s practically undrivable and can’t
3:41
drive straight but as you can see the
3:43
interior is still literally meant also
3:46
well too needed on the dyno the car’s
3:48
power band was very much unlike a turbo
3:52
Honda more like a craftsworks
3:54
supercharged setup come to find out with
3:57
David luck I had a defective brand new
3:59
single turbo that leaks down the middle
4:01
of each housing so the leak is in
4:04
between here
4:05
and there so it’s in there so it wasn’t
4:09
making all the power it could be but 470
4:12
wheel and an EG is still a ton of
4:15
horsepower I also installed Fortune Auto
4:17
coilovers and full race traction bars to
4:19
help with torque steer I love that sound
4:23
closed caption that YouTube also
4:26
something seemed to live in my caliper
4:28
so that’s pretty neat I was also getting
4:30
a crazy leak from somewhere I couldn’t
4:32
really figure out where it was come to
4:34
find out it was near the thermostat and
4:37
some other areas of the motor that just
4:39
tended to have oil leaks thankfully
4:41
patch that all up but that was another
4:43
issue I ran into so the car is making
4:45
progress
4:47
but it’s tough in fighting every step of
4:49
the way I was gonna paint this already
4:51
but I also have a front lip a carbon
4:54
ducktail in the back some really nice
4:56
aesthetic goodies but it’s just not
4:58
ready yet because it’s not painted yet
5:00
I’m one of those people that has to do
5:02
things in like a very specific order
5:04
it’s like no it needs to be painted
5:06
before you put nice carbon pieces on
5:08
your car that way it doesn’t look out of
5:10
place
5:11
[Music]
5:13
okay well um this was a car
5:16
at one point all right so this is a big
5:20
one blue Jay-Z has arguably been the
5:24
biggest struggle of my entire career
5:27
when it comes to filming cars building
5:30
cars does not matter this has been me
5:32
trying to climb to the top of Mount
5:35
Everest and getting turned down every
5:38
single time I get close it’s like I just
5:40
run out of oxygen right at the peak
5:43
yeah it’s a little different than the
5:45
last time you saw at the end of the day
5:47
with all of these problems it all comes
5:50
down to one thing the car needs a
5:53
completely new body harness or chassis
5:56
harness whatever you want to call it um
5:58
and that is why this car is so
6:02
meticulously torn down right now and
6:04
looks like a uh
6:06
catastrophe because it is oh look at
6:09
that I got a brand new turbo blanket
6:11
though so we’re getting somewhere all in
6:13
all this car has cost me wait for it
6:16
three engines so that’s one stock 2J and
6:20
two built ones has bricked three a
6:23
Infinity ecu’s burned up to 12 coil
6:26
packs out of existence clogged injectors
6:28
who knows how many spark plugs a
6:31
differential two axles defective built
6:34
twin turbos two wiring harnesses two
6:37
clutches two fuel pumps and a popped
6:40
Michelin tire I’ve also retuned the car
6:43
several times and even put bigger
6:45
injectors in it for more Headroom but
6:47
the car was only pushing around six
6:49
volts at times which explains everything
6:52
including all these catastrophic
6:54
failures without enough power things
6:57
just aren’t going to work properly so
6:59
I’m switching over to a different
7:00
Standalone ECU and a different gauge
7:03
cluster that way I can get rid of all
7:05
this analog crap that seems to really
7:07
hold him back oh check this out guys uh
7:10
look at all these spider webs that are
7:12
hanging out in here but as you can see
7:14
here
7:15
the fender is off in order to access the
7:18
areas that have the body harness and
7:21
this one is the biggest culprit of all
7:23
because if you have your car sitting
7:25
just a smidge too low this tire can rub
7:29
into this body harness and wear it down
7:32
into pieces and I suspect that was a big
7:35
part of it but also lesson learned when
7:39
I bought this car it was a piece of junk
7:42
was it cool for the video series to have
7:45
kind of a full transformation to make
7:48
this thing look prettier than it really
7:51
deserved of course it was but if I just
7:53
paid a little bit more for a better
7:56
example to start with on this project I
7:59
probably wouldn’t be in this situation
8:01
this was practically a barn find and had
8:04
I just picked something that was taken
8:06
more care of the body harness probably
8:09
would just be in better shape I’m not
8:11
saying it would be a lot better because
8:12
it’s still a 30 year old body harness
8:14
but probably better than the situation
8:17
that this car has given me this car in
8:19
particular has become the car of
8:21
somebody asking so what’s going on with
8:23
the 240 and I say how much time do you
8:26
got the priority right now is for me to
8:28
finish another 240SX that yes I still
8:32
own
8:35
that’s all you get this car is still
8:36
pretty much a secret but I couldn’t
8:38
resist this switch panel is pretty cool
8:41
though I personally think the hardest
8:43
pill to swallow with me doing project
8:46
cars is honestly that I drive so many
8:50
project cars
8:51
that work I’ve driven over 1400 project
8:55
cars at this point for this YouTube
8:57
channel to bring you guys content to
9:00
show people’s perspective on their part
9:02
of car culture to share their story with
9:05
my video series you might notice that I
9:07
always get to a certain point where I’m
9:10
like this close to finishing it and then
9:13
something catastrophic happens with this
9:15
it was the motors blowing up and the ECU
9:18
issues and stuff with this it was kind
9:20
of the turbo stuff and some of the
9:22
leaking and things of that nature I
9:25
always try to do it the right way and
9:27
sometimes you just kind of get lost and
9:29
you make things almost too nice and you
9:32
make your project more complicated and
9:35
that’s kind of where I fall under I just
9:37
can’t seem to have a car that’s just um
9:42
ugly and runs good that’s probably where
9:44
I did wrong
9:47
here we are in the unfinished basement
9:49
you guys haven’t seen this in a long
9:51
time where I did the majority of the
9:53
aesthetic work to the Integra in here
9:55
and some other stuff but here’s the
9:56
Acura Integra with the k20a swap in it
9:59
now this car is a little bit weird of a
10:01
case because it’s not so much mechanical
10:04
issues than registration issues so this
10:07
is a 2001 Acura Integra which sounds
10:10
lovely it’s the last year of the Integra
10:12
Until you realize that it’s a 25-year
10:14
exemption for emissions here in Georgia
10:16
and I did not think I was going to swap
10:19
this car when I bought it with the
10:21
original B18 now with the original B18
10:23
it decided to just
10:26
go kaboom
10:27
a bone stock B18 don’t ask me how I
10:31
guess I just uh have that kind of luck
10:33
physically it would pass with flying
10:35
colors the issue is is the hondata ECU
10:38
the Honda ECU can’t be read by a new BD
10:41
and here in Georgia it’s an OBD test
10:43
they plug it in therefore the Honda at
10:46
ECU freaks out and doesn’t know what to
10:48
do it has full Cadillac converters
10:50
resonators it has a near stock factory
10:53
exhaust system all the way to the
10:55
Cat-Back but the k28 runs really great
10:58
but somehow I managed to get a cracked
11:02
radiator because a rock hit it just the
11:05
right way so this leaks unfortunately
11:07
whenever I get on it it spews coolant
11:10
everywhere so that’s cool get it cool it
11:13
and cool
11:14
I’m sorry
11:17
the red eye swap Magnum is honestly the
11:21
worst financial decision I’ve ever made
11:23
and I absolutely hate to say it to be
11:26
fully transparent this project nearly
11:28
cost me my entire career it’s still
11:31
sitting at off the line performance in
11:32
Des Moines Iowa waiting to get a new
11:34
clutch after my brand new one decided
11:37
not to work at the most important Moment
11:39
The One race I needed it to work in
11:41
elimination rounds you know
11:43
after winning every other race in
11:45
practice I need to put it on a
11:47
standalone ECU rewire the lighting
11:49
system because apparently the taillights
11:51
don’t work anymore and actually get to
11:53
drive it for once I really didn’t get to
11:56
experience it and it’s just a real shame
11:59
but it really showed how many great
12:01
people in my life helped out to make it
12:03
through this project it was an absolute
12:06
Nightmare and to be honest with you I’m
12:08
glad that the majority of it is over
12:10
this
12:13
this car got freshly painted and then
12:15
immediately decided to turn into a
12:17
paperweight on the way home from its
12:18
first drive it decided to stop charging
12:21
and I pushed it into my garage this car
12:24
mechanically though has treated me very
12:25
well it has 113 000 miles on it with a
12:29
bone stock and sealed Engine with 710
12:31
wheel horsepower on 93 octane I did have
12:34
to change some rear end gears in at once
12:36
due to launching it like crazy but let’s
12:38
be honest that’s my fault years ago I
12:40
did have a weird tail light issue that
12:43
required a ton of work to fix turns out
12:45
it was my fuse box that I replaced three
12:48
times so I got two dud fuse boxes
12:52
how does this even happen then this time
12:54
around I got a check engine light for
12:56
voltage issues so I said oh man this
12:59
isn’t good first things first I decided
13:01
to replace the alternator with a 250 amp
13:04
Beast well after that I drove it for a
13:07
little while and then the car stopped
13:09
working and stopped charging there was
13:11
some chassis harness damage back in the
13:13
day which had to be repaired from a
13:15
rodent or something so I just assumed
13:17
that this was the issue and didn’t have
13:19
much motivation to go through an entire
13:21
chassis harness as you can imagine but
13:24
then my buddy Allen said dude you have
13:25
to miss Smurf that’s like part of who
13:27
you are so he came over and he said how
13:29
about we do a voltage test and just
13:31
start from the alternator so I went to
13:34
six different auto parts stores just to
13:36
find the right battery I needed for my
13:38
car somehow that was a thing a brand new
13:41
alternator that I paid for just simply
13:43
wasn’t working so we headed to a random
13:46
store and asked if they had any
13:47
alternators in stock obviously most
13:50
didn’t because of David but we finally
13:53
had a winner by buying this alternator
13:55
we went in thinking it’s probably just a
13:58
means to an end to find the real problem
14:00
and then we fixed it we are finally back
14:03
in my pride and joy Smurf car that has
14:06
been with me since
14:08
2012. but when this car was near bone
14:11
stock it was practically Invincible I
14:14
beat the absolute snot out of it then I
14:17
put a procharger on it made 6 30 wheel
14:19
then after that put the VMP gen 3 on it
14:23
and made 710 wheel uh here there’s a
14:26
stoplight coming up oh no I have the
14:28
downshift
14:31
but right now I’m in the process of just
14:34
burning off the rest of that bad gas
14:36
that’s been sitting in this car for
14:38
about a year so I’m not really risking
14:41
any crazy Full Throttle poles until one
14:43
I know the charging system is a hundred
14:45
percent to the Readiness test goes
14:48
through at the ECU to let me know that
14:50
and three once there’s better gas in it
14:52
you know there’s still like the little
14:54
big toes I can do
15:01
it’s so nice having one coyote that’s
15:04
raw with a manual and the other coyote I
15:07
just hold on fear to your life as the
15:09
10-speed Rose through the gears right
15:11
even though the live axle is technically
15:13
worse it still gives a crazy experience
15:17
sometimes
15:22
no better feeling as you can see the
15:25
nitrous blue flake is shimmering as
15:27
always looking good in the sunlight I
15:30
also need a brand new front lip right
15:31
here but that’s an easy fix I have it at
15:34
home all I have to do is put it on up
15:36
but we had to take that off for the
15:37
paint job but there we have it
15:39
my project cars I hope you hope you
15:41
really enjoyed this video it was
15:42
actually a lot of work trying to
15:44
remember and document everything for
15:46
this video because so much has happened
15:48
with all these different projects it was
15:50
kind of cool doing a deep dive on kind
15:52
of like a SparkNotes version of my
15:55
history with these project cars there’s
15:57
so much more to them there’s so many
15:58
more horror stories I have so if you
16:00
want to hear more of like my bad luck
16:03
stories just let me know because it’s
16:05
wild but along with that I want to thank
16:07
each and every one of you for watching
16:09
this video stopping by and I hope all of
16:12
you have a wonderful day I upload on
16:14
Tuesdays Thursdays and Sundays and I
16:17
will see you guys next time but take it
16:18
easy have a wonderful day goodbye
